So yes, it is intended to be consumed.
After all that previous rambling, I meant to write that these portraits are moving and unsettling. They vibrate under the skin. I like and don't like them because the people are uncomfortable, not beautiful, not damaged to the point of diagnosis, but just like the average person. Wish I could see the surface.
